Calve Exercises That Grow Big Calves

For many people calves can be a stubborn muscle.

I know a lot of guys who just can’t seem to get big calves.

In high school I didn’t think that it was a big deal if you had small legs, but as I got older and talked to more women I learned that girls think big calves are sexy.

Correct me if I’m wrong ladies, maybe the girls here in Michigan are just weird.

Anyway… This summer I set out on a mission. That mission was to figure out which calve exercises work best at producing mind blowing results.

I wanted to debunk the calve muscle once and for all and figure out how to grow nice looking, sexy calves.

This is a list of the top 5 calve exercises that helped me achieve these results:

Calf Press On The Leg Press Machine

  • These are easily performed by seating yourself on the leg press machine, positioning your toes on the bottom of the foot plate and slightly moving the leg press by performing a calf raise.

Donkey Calf Raises

  • Donkey Calf Raises are simply calf raises with somebody sitting on your back. Bend slightly at the waste and have your workout partner climb on top. Now, continue performing your calf raise. This is probably the goofiest looking exercise you will ever see done but you can’t argue with the results.

Seated Calf Raise

  • Seated Calf Raises are one of the few machines I actually like. Throw some weight on the seated calf raise machine and go to town!

Standing Calf Raises

  • No Gym? No Equipment? No Problem. Standing Calf Raises can be done in the comfort of your own home. Standing Calf Raises are actually a big part of my success. When I was in high school I used to perform 50-100 standing calf raises per leg before I would go to sleep.

Barbell Standing Calf Raises

  • If you want to turn up the intensity of standing calf raises throw some weight on a barbell and rest it on your back as if you were going to perform a squat. Then, proceed to do your calf raises. It really produces a good burn and major results!

*My number one big calve tip is to train your legs seriously. Don’t skip your squats. Big compound exercises help even the smallest muscles grow! Think of it like this. Squats are the main course, and the other isolation calve exercises are dessert. The main course fills you up, if you’ve got room for desert you end up even more satisfied.

  1. big calves ARE sexy. but they MUST be paired with big (and by big I mean MUSCULAR, not fat) quads (omg omg), glutes (sigh…), shoulders/delts (omg), bis, tris, pecs and lats (hello, my lair is this way).

    I have had a few compliments on my calves so I decided that I should
    create a post about getting big calves and list the different calve exercises
    that I had the best results with.
